Gang Of Four - LIVE RECORDINGS (1979 - 2021)
Gang of Four toured extensively and have released live recordings at regular points throughout their career which they viewed as alternative versions of their studio recorded material.
There have been several official live album releases performed by different line-ups over the course of Gang of Four’s career and there are also some notable unofficial live album bootlegs. Live recordings have also been used as extra tracks on some releases and re-issues.
Andy is the only performer who features on all Gang of Four official live album recordings.

OFFICIAL LIVE ALBUMS
1984 – Live at The Palace. Recorded at The Palace, Hollywood, Los Angeles. Performers – Andy Gill, Jon King, Sara Lee (bass), Steve Goulding (drums), Paula West (backing vocals) and Alyson Williams (backing vocals). Produced by Andy Gill and Jon King. Listen HERE.
2005 – Entertainment! Official Live Recording. Recorded Live at the Barbican Centre, London, 24th September. Performers – Andy Gill, Jon King, Hugo Burnham and Dave Allen. This live recording was available to purchase on CD immediately after the end of the show and has been re-pressed on vinyl since. It was part of the Don’t Look Back concert series where bands are invited to play a whole album in full. The set list featured most of Entertainment! plus other tracks.
2016 – Live…in the Moment. Performers – Andy Gill, John ‘Gaoler’ Sterry (vocals), Thomas McNeice (bass), Jonny Finnigan (drums). Produced by Andy Gill. Released as both an audio recording and on DVD. Listen HERE.
2020 – Soon after Andy’s death, Gang of Four co-founders Jon King, Hugo Burnham and Dave Allen released 14 Live albums simultaneously which are only available on US streaming services for licensing reasons. These are:

2021 – Live at American Indian Center, 1980 (San Francisco). Recorded by Terry Hammer for KTIM and KALX US radio stations. Gang of Four performed an early show and a late show with a slightly shorter set. Recordings of both versions have been available at various points over the years as ‘official’ bootlegs. The late show version is included on the 77-81 Box Set released in 2021 and Sweet Jane, a Lou Reed cover, features on the 2005 re-issue of Entertainment!
